Amy Shelle is currently in the Masters of Social Work program at MSU. She is also the president and founder of the organization, Animal-Assisted Therapy at MSU. This group was formed due to her interest in animals in therapy and their benefits to their human companions. The group focuses on educating the community on the use of animals in therapy, the use of service animals and is continually trying to develop a compilation of facilities in Michigan that participate in service animals and animal-assisted therapy. She became aware of Stiggy’s Dogs when the AAT at MSU group was attending a fundraising event with Luis Montalván and his service dog, Tuesday.
Currently, Amy is performing a pilot research project at Stiggy’s looking at the impacts of service dogs and veterans. This pilot study will allow her to fine tune a future research project this facility. She also has a service dog named Kai, and is working privately with Donna. Kai is a 1-year-old Rottweiler and full of energy. She is also very intelligent and is beginning to learn her job.
Amy is very grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of this amazing organization and truly hopes that the research she is performing will be able to show how valuable service dogs are.
We are so grateful to have Amy and Kai on board. ~Stiggy’s Dogs Staff
