Tiger’s strengths and weaknesses…

I have spent some solid time with Tiger. He is really a wonderful sweet boy who wants to be loved!

These past few days have been stressful for Tiger I am sure. He was introduced to new people, homes, dogs, commands, smells, routines, etc. All of this he has ‘panted’ in stride. He is still settling into a routine and panting is a release for him. I have to say, even in the stressful of situations while he was panting heavily, he always listened or took correction! That is amazing, usually a dog in unable to learn in an ‘excited’ state of mind. Tiger is really smart!

Tiger seems like he hasn’t had much socialization and play time with other dogs. Tiger wants to play, but he is awkward in his approach: he barks, chases and barks (like a herding cattle dog). Joe, Spencer and I spent some time working with Tiger to be part of our pack, Twig and Big were  neutral dogs and good teachers for Tiger.  Tiger is not aggressive just a little obnoxious, and we know where to focus on.

Tiger is very connect to you. He wants to be in your room and with you. He is very aware, and at times where I had emotion he picked right up on it and came over to me to lay his big black long snout on my leg. Sweet, very special.

Tiger can be a bit ‘mouthy’, something  completely unacceptable in my book. We are teaching him to ‘take’ a treat nicely, I have almost lost a couple fingers……See the video for an example of us giving him a treat.  Tiger has gotten ‘mouthy’ during play time, not intentionally, he just needs to learn my limitations and expectations. He learns quickly and wants to please!

Tiger is a dream on a leash! He has only needed little correction from time to time. Tiger paces himself with me, turns by my minimal movement with me, and almost sits every time I stop. My back and arm is forever grateful! He notices his surroundings but remains very focused on me, even a squirrel got his attention and he still stopped when I corrected him. I know, right?

Tiger needs work on his greeting manners, on barking when startled, and how he will barks/talks to you to get attention-almost got that one nipped!!! :)

I have no doubt Tiger will pass his Canine Good Citizen soon!!!! Tiger is a wonderful addition to our Stiggy Family!
