Independence: Freedom from control or influence of others.
Is that what Independence Day means to you? Do you celebrate our freedom?
The fight for independence is going on in the world around us. Fortunately, the American Colonies “won” the war against England, declaring our independence. In 1776 the Declaration of Independence proclaimed the United States independent from Great Britain. We now have the freedom to believe in a religion, to speak our minds, to write our opinions to others. Americans have no restrictions against raising a family or living wherever they want! The laws are continuously changing for the better, and for that I am happy.
War: the active struggle between competing parties with armed forces.
I believe war is not the most important word here, active is the most important word in that definition.
Active: being in a state of existence, progress or participation.
The fight was not over in 1776. A new fight is being fought, the fight to keep our independence. We are fortunate enough to have strong, brave and courageous men and women to fight for our country. My father is one of the few and the proud.
My name is Isabelle, I am a 13 year old girl who has only known a life with a military background. My family will always come before anything else. My father has been a marine veteran for 10 years. My father and my family are still fighting the battle that comes after serving. I lived just outside a marine corp base for the first three years of my life. I’ve grown up to know and appreciate the fact that my dad, and many others, fought for our country. Families like mine are special. We quickly learn the truth of what it means to serve and fight for our country. We understand the sacrifices and the losses.
The Americans who serve give their time, physical strength, mental strength and fight the impact it has on the life. The freedom we have is a result of these amazing men and women. When I think of Independence Day I have the comfort to think of it as a day to be stress free, to lay back and just appreciate my blessings. July 4th is a day to show how much you appreciate our country.
I know it is because of those brave men and woman, and I pray that one day they will have there independence from the battles they may still be fighting. Everyone out there needs a big reminder of what the true meaning of why we celebrate on July 4th, be the one to give them a big reminder.
I know I owe my independence to all those who serve, and for that I am thankful, and for that I am going to celebrate!
- Have a great weekend.
