Corpsman

We welcome our newest Stiggys Dogs candidate…..Corpsman.

Lynda Gibson, our former foster/trainer for Brutus, has done it again! Long story short…..Lynda brought  this sweet, smart and handsome boy down for Donna to do a behavior evaluation on him, looking to see if he could possibly be a Service Dog.  Knowing that this guy was younger than we usually like but his potential was worth it, so we took the time to meet with him.  And we are glad we did!!!

Lynda has offered to foster/train him for the duration until he is ready to be brought to Stiggys Sanctuary. Making it possible for us to take in another dog to train. (time, space and money giving us no room at the moment).

I remember sitting on the porch with Lynda, after calling the dog my his name that he did not recognize. Changing his name was something we were talking about. “I was thinking of the name Corpsman for Him” Lynda suggested casually.

Corpsman????….I let the sounds roll slowly off my tongue. Corpsman, the job Doc Stiggy did- who he was. I looked at this handsome strong-looking boy…..Corpsman……“Everyone loves their Corpsmen” I said out loud, looking at the dogs big brown eyes, resembling Ben’s…

Corpsman it is! What an honor to live up to, and I KNOW this guy will!!! We look forward to following your journey. Thank You Lynda , for you are not only rescuing this dog, but opening up the space to rescue another Veteran. :)

*Corpsman- (kohr-men) An enlisted person in the U.S. Navy, serving either with the Navy or the Marines, who has been trained to give first aid and basic medical treatment, especially in combat situations.
